Tor Marancia: narrare e rappresentare l’identità territoriale

The territory of the former Roman Campagna has proved to be a complex reality for a long time, the dynamics of which travelled hand in hand with those of the city of Rome. The territory was rich in towers, Casali and numerous land units, and it has turned from rural to dispersed and destructured suburbs since the Second post-war period. This essay investigates the history of Tor Marancia, the only medieval tower in the neighbourhood, in the light of its preservation and using and in relation to the significant mobilization “from below”. Through a Web portal and a WebGIS application, the history of the tower and of its estate, as well as the “territorial narratives” by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood, which represent the memory of the territory itself, are made available.

Il territorio dell’ex Campagna Romana è stato per secoli un contesto particolarmente complesso, le cui dinamiche hanno per la gran parte ripercorso la storia articolata della città di Roma. Un territorio che da rurale, caratterizzato dalla presenza di torri, casali e numerose unità fondiarie, si è trasformato, a partire dal secondo dopoguerra, in periferia dispersa e destrutturata spazialmente. Su questi presupposti, il presente contributo analizza e ricostruisce la storia di Tor Marancia, l’unica torre medievale superstite nell’ambito dell’omonimo quartiere, alla luce soprattutto dell’importante mobilitazione dal basso che si è concretizzata in relazione alla sua preservazione e fruizione. Attraverso la realizzazione di un geoportale e un WebGIS, si è cercato di rendere fruibili le vicende che più hanno influito sulla storia di lungo periodo della torre e della sua tenuta, così come le narrazioni territoriali prodotte dagli abitanti del quartiere che rappresentano a tutti gli effetti la memoria del territorio stesso.
