We review recent developments in nonlinear optical sampling techniques for the ultrafast detection of single photons. Starting from a brief overview of the current status in single-photon sources and detectors, we focus mainly on optical Kerr shutters in free space and optical fibers. We discuss the related theory and the practical aspects required for achieving single-photon sensitivity for applications in spectroscopy and quantum information processing.

Abstract
We review recent developments in nonlinear optical sampling techniques for the ultrafast detection of single photons. Starting from a brief overview of the current status in single-photon sources and detectors, we focus mainly on optical Kerr shutters in free space and optical fibers. We discuss the related theory and the practical aspects required for achieving single-photon sensitivity for applications in spectroscopy and quantum information processing.File in questo prodotto:
