The Ponticello bridge is a Roman construction with a single arch of modest dimensions located in the north-eastern suburbs of the city of Benevento. It is the first bridge of the via Traiana, the road infrastructure built by the emperor Trajan at the beginning of the 2nd century AD to connect Benevento to Brindisi, and it allowed the crossing of the San Nicola ditch. This contribution aims to analyze the technical-constructive aspects of the building, to compare the data with other similar structures and to frame the bridge in the topographical context connected to the ancient road network.
