The aim of this research is to develop a multidisciplinary method for enhancing the historical-cultural heritage through the virtual reconstruction of ancient internal flame lighting systems. Laser scanning, digital photogrammetry, and solid modelling were used to create three-dimensional reconstructions of the artefacts. Historical and archaeological documentation was used to define lighting scenarios and reconstruct the luminaires used. Laboratory experiments on flames provided scientific parameters for the virtual reconstruction of the lighting scenarios. This method was validated through two case studies: a cave church in Matera and a Roman villa in Mola di Bari. The research not only contributes to the scholarly community but also aims to enhance architectural artefacts and promote historical knowledge for future generations. Possible applications include virtual reality, augmented reality, and online 3D visualization to promote the appreciation of cultural heritage.
