Identification of optimal digital technologies that can facilitate the recovery of historical artifacts or urban areas damaged by natural events or neglect due to progressive abandonment still represents a complex transdisciplinary research question. A key role is recognized for HBIM (Historic Building Information Modelling) models, which have proven to be valuable tools in historical heritage management and conservation. This is mainly due to their capabilities in associating heterogeneous data to a three-dimensional replica of physical reality. The present paper deals with the lessons learned from the definition of a multidisciplinary operational workflow for an integrated design of the recovery interventions in a fully digital environment. The test application to a building complex called Villotta 2, located in the abandoned area of the Municipality of Navelli (AQ) is illustrated and discussed. The results confirm the potential of HBIM models in information management and sharing, as well as in the implementation of effective and efficient conservation processes.
