The chapter briefly presents the main technical characteristics of the fourth generation energy district heating and cooling (fourth GDHC) network as well as its integration into the more complex Smart Energy System (SES), which represents the state-of-the-art, new, smart, integrated polygeneration system, recognized as a key factor to reach the net-zero CO2 emission target by 2050. A brief description of the fourth GDHC components; the renewable resources used; the control strategies; and the economic, energetic, and exergetic performance indices is also provided. A literature overview on the low-temperature energy network design principle is also carried out, focusing on the main tools used, the renewable energy conversion technologies, and the supply and return temperature ranges. Finally, a case study of a fourth GDHC is presented to evaluate the energy performances of two different possible configurations in order to establish the best solution possible based on the optimization index used.

Abstract
Finally, a case study of a fourth GDHC is presented to evaluate the energy performances of two different possible configurations in order to establish the best solution possible based on the optimization index used.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
