Abstract

A truncated uniaxially anisotropic chiral slab with the optical axis perpendicular to its planar interfaces is lit by an incident plane wave, thus generating a diffraction contribution to the scattered field. The direction of incidence and the incident electric field are assumed to be orthogonal and parallel to the edge, respectively. The uniform asymptotic physical optics approach is here used to attain a solution for the diffracted field to be added to the geometrical optics field. Such a solution is the only one available as a result of an analytical procedure that is applied to the considered problem. The resulting total field does not exhibit discontinuities across the reflection and incident shadow boundaries
