The territory of Megara Hyblaea remains largely unknown in spite of its importance for understanding the socio-economic organisation both during the archaic phase of the polis and in the subsequent integration into the Syracusan chora. Indeed, archaeological research has long focused mainly on the colonial period and topographical investigations have been based mainly on ancient sources. New researches have therefore allowed the identification of unknown Greek settlements in the areas of Brucoli and Augusta through the acquisition of new toponymic, topographical and archaeological data. These new data therefore clarify that the presence of coastal settlements was widespread and that these areas of the territory were also profoundly anthropized than previously thought.
