The aim of this paper is to describe the theoretical approach with which we intend to deal with figures of speech distinguishing two levels: one related to the linguistic system of sign languages distinguishing it from that of vocal languages, the other on the tropology of LIS (Italian Sign Language) which, like all sign languages (LS), have quite particular iconicity and has its own ways for the manifestation of metaphors and metonyms. Then, will focus on a study into some tropes of LIS, both simple and complex, compared with others of Italian language that is one of the linguistic roofing. The analysis in particular deals with how metonymy, synecdoche and hyperbole evolve and are organized in sign figures (equivalent to word figures) and sense figures.
