In this chapter, we discuss the emerging computing concepts in the field of neuromorphic engineering involving MOx-based memristors. First, we describe what is currently meant with the expression “Neuromorphic Computing” and its several faceting into specific ideas of computing systems. We identify the major technological challenges a neuromorphic computer has to manage to become reality and we highlight that emerging memory devices and, in particular, MOx-based memristors can become key-enabler of neuromorphic systems. After a brief recap of the most well established concepts of MOx-memristors regarding their physical operation and electrical programming, we discuss the novel memristive functionalities that support some kind of neuromorphic computing and that are currently under research. In the following section, we review neuromorphic systems concepts and prototypes recently reported in the literature and discuss the role of MOx-based memristors in their operation. Finally, conclusions and outlook complete the chapter.

Abstract
Finally, conclusions and outlook complete the chapter.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
