Che genere di font? Un esercizio didattico oltre il binarismo in campo tipografico

This text recounts an experimental project conducted in the Graphic Design Laboratory of the Design Course at the University of Genoa. Drawing on a review of literature addressing the relationship between type design and gender binarism, the project took the form of a workshop that used typographic experimentation to discuss and reflect on gender stereotypes. The goal was to deconstruct the link between fonts and gender binarism, and through the workshop activities, guide the class toward formulating a fluid vision of possible imaginative typefaces.

Il testo vuole raccontare una sperimentazione svolta presso il Laboratorio di Grafica nel Corso di Design dell’Università di Genova. Partendo da uno studio della letteratura che affronta la relazione tra design tipografico e il binarismo di genere, è stato strutturato un workshop sperimentale con il fine di utilizzare il mezzo tipografico per discutere, e riflettere sul tema degli stereotipi di genere, per arrivare poi a decostruire la relazione tra font e binarismo di genere e, attraverso il progetto, fare costruire alla classe una visione fluida di possibili caratteri tipografici di fantasia.
