The Aspis is an epic poem handed down under the name of Hesiod that belonged to a living oral rhapsodic tradition: both structural and formal considerations prompt this conclusion. Reconsidering its relationship to the Catalogue of Women (also attributed to Hesiod in antiquity) may lead to new hypotheses about the Aspis itself and the func- tions of the Catalogue, which at some point in its history may have been a part of the rhapsodic repertoire as well.

Abstract
The Aspis is an epic poem handed down under the name of Hesiod that belonged to a living oral rhapsodic tradition: both structural and formal considerations prompt this conclusion. Reconsidering its relationship to the Catalogue of Women (also attributed to Hesiod in antiquity) may lead to new hypotheses about the Aspis itself and the func- tions of the Catalogue, which at some point in its history may have been a part of the rhapsodic repertoire as well.File in questo prodotto:
