Balloonborne measurements of H2O, CH4 and H2 in January and March 2000 show clear evidence for dehydration inside the polar vortex. This phenomenon is evident in all five in-situ balloon observations for this period, therefore is likely to have occurred over extended regions and longer periods of this winter which was characterized by a well confined vortex and low stratospheric temperatures. Only small or no particles were found in the probed airmass.
Dehydration in the Arctic stratosphere during the THESEO2000 / SOLVE campaigns

Abstract
Balloonborne measurements of H2O, CH4 and H2 in January and March 2000 show clear evidence for dehydration inside the polar vortex. This phenomenon is evident in all five in-situ balloon observations for this period, therefore is likely to have occurred over extended regions and longer periods of this winter which was characterized by a well confined vortex and low stratospheric temperatures. Only small or no particles were found in the probed airmass.File in questo prodotto:
