Abstract

The main technological revolutions, in human history, are characterized by the discovery of new materials or the improvement of manufacturing techniques. Polymers and composites lead to the great changes of the last centuries and are characterized by continuous improvements and application sector expansion. Therefore, this chapter is focused on the description of the principal characteristics of composite materials. Starting with CFRP and GFRP which marked the replacement of metal alloys, until the newest composites configurations with natural fibers and bio-resins that, by additive manufacturing processes, are leading this sector to the revolution through environmental impact reduction.
