[origin: EP2863257A1] A system (100) for acquiring and processing images of an aquatic environment is proposed. Said system (100) is adapted to be coupled with a fixed platform (305) or with an oceanographic device (405, 410, 415). The system comprises an acquisition module (105) adapted to acquire at least one image of an aquatic environment to be monitored; a control module (110) adapted to automatically control the operation of the system (100) and process and store the at least one acquired image, a communication module (115) adapted to transmit to receivers external to the system (100) the at least one acquired image and/or data resulting from said processing of the at least one acquired image performed by the control module (110); a power supply module (120) adapted to provide energy to the acquisition module (105), to the control module (110) and to the communication module (115), and a casing (123) adapted to house the acquisition module (105), the control module (110), the communication module (115) and the power module (120), the casing being configured to maintain hermetically insulated the system (100) for acquiring and processing of images from the aquatic environment. Moreover, the control module (110) comprises a controller element (150) configured to automatically control the acquisition of the at least one image by the acquisition module (105), and a processing element (155) configured to process the at least one acquired image. In the solution according to an embodiment of the present invention the processing element (155) is further configured to perform one or more algorithms adapted to perform a recognition of subjects in the at least one acquired image in order to identify at least one sought subject.
