The paper deals with a preliminary sociolinguistic analysis of a corpus of first-generation Sardinian speakers who migrated to Biella, an Alpine Valley in the north-west of Italy. The data have been collected through ethnographic interviews with either single speakers or married couples who migrated from Sardinia. The analysis is conducted on the linguistic repertoires and linguistic uses emerging from the recorded interactions and on the phonetic variability of the vowel space in some selected speakers. The results show that Sardinian varieties are preserved within families but not transmitted to the youngest generations of migrants.

Descrizione: Il lavoro presenta una prima indagine sociolinguistica di un corpus di parlanti sardi di prima generazione che sono migrati nel Biellese, una valle alpina nel nord-ovest d’Italia. I dati sono stati raccolti attraverso interviste etnografiche sia con singoli parlanti sia con coppie di coniugi che sono migrati dalla Sardegna. L’analisi è stata condotta sui repertori e gli usi linguistici che emergono dalle interazioni registrate e sulla variabilità fonetica dello spazio vocalico in alcuni parlanti selezionati. I risultati mostrano come le diverse varietà di sardo sono conservate all’interno delle famiglie ma non sono trasmesse alle generazioni di migrazione più giovani.
