Sciascia, Guccione, Il Gattopardo: legami, coincidenze, connessioni

Leonardo Sciascia’s interest in the thirty-year anniversary of The Leopard in 1988 intersected with the artistic activity of his friend Piero Guccione. The long and established relationship between the two, and the preface written by the former to an American edition of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s work, which was illustrated by the latter, are at the centre of this article. It is based upon the presentation given at the book launch of Ladri di luce. Leonardo Sciascia e Piero Guccione tra bellezza e verità [Thieves of Light: Leonardo Sciascia and Piero Guccione], edited by Lavinia Spalanca (Florence, Olschki 2023) which took place in Florence on September 29th 2023. The event was attended by the editor and organized by the Associazione Amici di Leonardo Sciascia at the Gabinetto Scientifico Letterario G.P. Vieusseux (in the Sala Ferri in Palazzo Strozzi).
