Abstract

This issue of «Quaderni Storici» tries to highlight materiality aspect of the social processes (and their effects on environmental systems) that produced the current rural landscapes (including closed forests) through an interdisciplinary historical and archaeological analysis. The historical approach to the study of the environmental aspects reveals legacies neglected by the specialists in applied knowledge who today deal with environmental and landscape management and planning (i.e. landscape architects, agronomists, naturalists etc.).
