Glass filters are functionalized by deposition of polyelectrolyte molecular layers. The procedure requires the growth of sacrificial nanoparticles within these filters in order to have the possibility of the formation of continuous layer-by-layer films. After the film formation these nanoparticles were dissolved. The resulted functionalized filters reveal the variable permeability, depending on the pH of the filtering solution. It is also shown that such filters can adsorb molecules, varying their charge according to the pH of the solution.

Abstract

Glass filters are functionalized by deposition of polyelectrolyte molecular layers. The procedure requires the growth of sacrificial nanoparticles within these filters in order to have the possibility of the formation of continuous layer-by-layer films. After the film formation these nanoparticles were dissolved. The resulted functionalized filters reveal the variable permeability, depending on the pH of the filtering solution. It is also shown that such filters can adsorb molecules, varying their charge according to the pH of the solution.
