This paper proposes a new interpretation of the archaeological data available for medieval city of Nûl Lamta (village of Asrir, in southern Morocco), by examination of both historical and recent remote sensing data. The aim is to identify archaeological marks related to ancient buried structures. Nûl Lamta placed on the Nun river and was the westernmost bridgehead along one of the main medieval routes of trans-Saharan trade, passing through Tamdoult and Sigilmassa. The dataset of images used is composed of two Hexagon KH-9 cosmic photos, various high-resolution satellite images that can be viewed in Google Earth and some medium resolution Sentinel-2 images. The integration of several heterogeneous data in a GIS platform allowed some interesting observations about the structure of the city and its extension and a preliminary reconstructive plan of the site was elaborated. In addition to this important caravan city, the same remote sensing detection approach was also used to the immediate surrounding area: to the site of "Tulit al-Harâtîn" immediately to the N and to the more peripheral area, characterized by the presence of other types of settlements minor, such as small villages and "ksars" or remains of fortresses.

Abstract
In addition to this important caravan city, the same remote sensing detection approach was also used to the immediate surrounding area: to the site of "Tulit al-Harâtîn" immediately to the N and to the more peripheral area, characterized by the presence of other types of settlements minor, such as small villages and "ksars" or remains of fortresses.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
