This essay offers a lexical analysis of the integral Florentine vernacular trans- lation of the Legenda aurea. In particular, it focuses on three specific words that serve as indicators of an archaic translation lexicon; two out of three (the nouns burbanza and miluogo) are Gallicisms, while the third one (the adverb mez- zolanamente) prominently appears in vernacular translations produced in the first half of the fourteenth century. By relying on TLIO (Tesoro della Lingua Italiana delle Origini) and Corpus OVI (Opera del Vocabolario Italiano), we establish connections between the Florentine Legenda aurea and other translations dating from the thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries.

Abstract
This essay offers a lexical analysis of the integral Florentine vernacular trans- lation of the Legenda aurea. In particular, it focuses on three specific words that serve as indicators of an archaic translation lexicon; two out of three (the nouns burbanza and miluogo) are Gallicisms, while the third one (the adverb mez- zolanamente) prominently appears in vernacular translations produced in the first half of the fourteenth century. By relying on TLIO (Tesoro della Lingua Italiana delle Origini) and Corpus OVI (Opera del Vocabolario Italiano), we establish connections between the Florentine Legenda aurea and other translations dating from the thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
