Formulas and results for optimizing Fabry–Perot cavity antennas (FPCAs) are examined, for structures excited by either an HMD or VED source. The HMD source can produce a narrow pencil beam at broadside, while the VED source can produce a narrow null pattern at broadside. The effects of the aperture truncation on the nullwidth and beamwidth properties are also taken into account.
