In the framework of the diagnostic surveys on Leonardo Savioli’s “Building A” in the working-class neighbourhood of Sorgane (Florence), an assessment of the corrosion condition of the pillars was performed. The research aimed to relate the characteristics of concrete in situ to the corrosion risk. The investigation of the physical and mechanical properties of concrete allowed a preliminary corrosion evaluation to be carried out by means of a formula available in the literature, considering the relation among the design of cover thickness, the carbonation depth, and the effect of water penetration. Then, the estimated corrosion risk was compared with the results of electrochemical measurements applied to the pillars potentially subject to decay.

Abstract
In the framework of the diagnostic surveys on Leonardo Savioli’s “Building A” in the working-class neighbourhood of Sorgane (Florence), an assessment of the corrosion condition of the pillars was performed. The research aimed to relate the characteristics of concrete in situ to the corrosion risk. The investigation of the physical and mechanical properties of concrete allowed a preliminary corrosion evaluation to be carried out by means of a formula available in the literature, considering the relation among the design of cover thickness, the carbonation depth, and the effect of water penetration. Then, the estimated corrosion risk was compared with the results of electrochemical measurements applied to the pillars potentially subject to decay.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
