This work presents the Green Navigation project, which aims to develop a weather routing system for optimizing ship routes based on real-time information and ocean context forecasts. The project is motivated by three key pillars: economy, as optimized routes can lead to significant fuel savings; decarbonization, in response to the International Maritime Organization’s emission reduction goals; and safety, addressing the high incidence of offshore accidents during adverse weather conditions. Green Navigation utilizes complex mathematical optimization algorithms that incorporate consumption models, emissions, and safety considerations. The ultimate objective is to create a navigation system that supports the digital transformation and decarbonization of the shipping industry.

Abstract
This work presents the Green Navigation project, which aims to develop a weather routing system for optimizing ship routes based on real-time information and ocean context forecasts. The project is motivated by three key pillars: economy, as optimized routes can lead to significant fuel savings; decarbonization, in response to the International Maritime Organization’s emission reduction goals; and safety, addressing the high incidence of offshore accidents during adverse weather conditions. Green Navigation utilizes complex mathematical optimization algorithms that incorporate consumption models, emissions, and safety considerations. The ultimate objective is to create a navigation system that supports the digital transformation and decarbonization of the shipping industry.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
