"Islands in the island", a mediated group in a transcultural situation: The challenges of caring for young migrants

Through the use of photographic mediation, we wish to show the benefits of using a group mediation setting in the migratory context. Against this unstable background, we encounter vulnerable identity and psychic configurations exposed to the risks of psychic trauma. What appears against the light is a web of relationships impregnated with structural violence that often takes on the language of symbolic violence, to use a concept dear to Bourdieu: in the country of arrival, even in the “place” for which we are responsible, that of the helping relationship, forms of violence suffered with very different degrees of intensity in the contexts of origin and during the migratory process can be reproduced. We wish to highlight the relevance of the work of the anthropologist E. De Martino on cultural apocalypses and the “crisis of presence” linked to migration in order to think about a process of inclusion within a community that is capable of acknowledging the crisis and elaborating it in a living social dynamic.
