"Made Green in Italy" (MGI) scheme aims to enhance the market of Italian products with the best environmental performance calculated through the PEF method. The scheme is based on the identification of three environmental performance classes (A, B and C), specific for different product categories, and asks to determine the class to which a product belongs. When MGI scheme has been published, neither the scheme itself nor PEF methodology provided specific rules for calculating the classes of performances. This paper describes the methods used to define the environmental performance classes for two product categories in the dairy sector: hard sheeps’ milk cheeses and Grana Padano PDO.

When MGI scheme has been published, neither the scheme itself nor PEF methodology provided specific rules for calculating the classes of performances.
