This contribution analyzes the need for ad hoc normativity (at both national and international levels) to protect the intellectual property of Latin American indigenous peoples’ ancestral knowledge. It aims to demonstrate how this normativity must specifically account for the collective, multigenerational, and holistic nature of these peoples, considering the appropriation and misuse of traditional Latin American cultural expressions by the fashion and design industries
