Abstract

One of the digital imaging techniques allows to improve the reading of engraved or low-relief artefacts. It is the Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) technique. This paper collects the experience of applying the RTI technique for the first time on chalcographic material, in particular on some matrices of Piranesi’s Prisons. This series, reworked over time by the author, shows, through RTI pictures, the poietic stratification of the engraved marks and the evolution of the Piranesian technique.
