3x3. Progetti per Norcia

The earthquakes, that hit the central Apennines last August, had the intensity peak with the shock of the October 30, 2016. The epicentre of this quake was located a few kilometres from Norcia. The city, already damaged by previous shocks, suffered numerous collapses. The reconstruction of Norcia was the theme proposed for a university workshop related to the course of Architecture and Composition 3 of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Perugia.This paper intends to collect and disseminate the 9 projects by students of the degree course in Building Engineering-Architecture. The paper wants also to be an opportunity to reflect on how to deal with the reconstruction of Norcia through proposals that will maintain the identity of the places but, at the same time, bring contemporary architectural quality.Students worked on 3 different design themes: urban, structural and architectural projects.The workshop allowed the students to work on a very topical issue, that will be the challenge of the coming years in Umbria and in many other places of the national territory, if it will not be implemented a safe plan for the areas at risk. The groups of students faced the issue through different themes and different graphic scales, so they could think independently and confront each other. They imagined a city that is back a place of tourist attraction and an important business area: think of the future through technological and architectural innovation, but with great respect for the traditions of the territory.
