Wool is a natural and renewable resource. Yet, the majority of raw Italian wool is thrown away because it fails to find a market. This chapter presents the results of an exploratory study examining the potential for adding value to wool. Through a qualitative investigation, including in-depth interviews, participant observations, and case studies, four main pathways for wool valorization have emerged: small-scale textile and apparel production, padding manufacturing, construction materials, and fertilizers. Enhancing wool economies requires optimal use of different wool types, creativity, attention to local culture, and closer cooperation.
