In this chapter we start by giving a background on the promising color centers in diamond as well as diamond fabrication methods, including laser writing and ion implantation. In Section 4.3, we present results on the deterministic fabrication of quantum emitters in diamond. In Section 4.4, we describe how ion beam irradiation and femtosecond laser fabrication can be used to create photonics in diamond. In Section 4.5, we present results of forming micrographitic structures in diamond. In Section 4.6, we show how ion beam irradiation and laser writing, especially in tandem, can produce novel quantum technology devices in diamond. Finally, we provide conclusions and an outlook to the future of laser writing and ion implantation of diamond quantum technologies.
