Ri-connettersi: verso una concettualizzazione della violenza digitale di genere

Gender-based violence exercised through digital technologies against women and girls is a set of practices of control and coercion that exacerbates the dynamics of discrimination, marginalisation and social exclusion. Multiple effects can be attributed to its dual dimension: on the one hand, it hinders women’s and girls’ full participation in digital spaces; on the other, it enables control and manipulation through monitoring and surveillance software and applications. This phenomenon is still poorly conceptualised and lacks an unambiguous definition. Drawing on the ‘expert knowledge’ of the women workers of five anti-violence centres in Italy, this article aims to improve the understanding of gender-based cyberviolence by reconstructing its defining proposals and specificities.
