The aim of this chapter is to highlight different processes that are affecting the Italy-France borderlands at different scales and across different domains, to explore their consequences, and to reflect more generally on the present state of affairs in EU borderlands. Infamously, the border between Italy and France is known for the harsh management of the secondary movements of migrants; by contrast, it is also a place of long-lasting exchange and cooperation. The Italy-France dynamic is particularly illustrative of European borderlands as a space of simultaneous tension and encounter, conflict and cooperation, which is generating political and institutional change.

Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to highlight different processes that are affecting the Italy-France borderlands at different scales and across different domains, to explore their consequences, and to reflect more generally on the present state of affairs in EU borderlands. Infamously, the border between Italy and France is known for the harsh management of the secondary movements of migrants; by contrast, it is also a place of long-lasting exchange and cooperation. The Italy-France dynamic is particularly illustrative of European borderlands as a space of simultaneous tension and encounter, conflict and cooperation, which is generating political and institutional change.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
