An accurate analytical model has been developed to estimate the efficiency of a novel quadratic boost DC–DC converter (QBC). Expressions for both the DC and root mean squared (RMS) components of current under continuous conduction mode (CCM) are derived. These expressions were used for calculating various power losses in the converter, including conduction and switching losses, as well as the total system power loss. A graphical analysis illustrates how power losses vary with changes in duty cycle and load resistance. To support the theoretical analysis, simulation results obtained using MATLAB/Simulink are also presented.

Abstract

An accurate analytical model has been developed to estimate the efficiency of a novel quadratic boost DC–DC converter (QBC). Expressions for both the DC and root mean squared (RMS) components of current under continuous conduction mode (CCM) are derived. These expressions were used for calculating various power losses in the converter, including conduction and switching losses, as well as the total system power loss. A graphical analysis illustrates how power losses vary with changes in duty cycle and load resistance. To support the theoretical analysis, simulation results obtained using MATLAB/Simulink are also presented.
