The Mediterranean Sea is becoming a key region for marine renewable energy (MRE), particularly for floating wind turbines (FOWTs), which can har- ness wind energy in its deep waters. This paper presents the research conducted at MaRELab, a field laboratory off the coast of Naples Harbour, established to test and develop multi-modular floating structures. MaRELab is pivotal in advancing and de-risking MRE technologies by providing critical insights into their perfor- mance, scalability, and sustainability. This study explores the design, testing, and continuous development of MRE technologies at MaRELab, focusing on the ex- perimental campaign conducted on a floating wind turbine. The knowledge gained is essential for fostering MRE advancements in the Mediterranean and scaling up these technologies to contribute to global renewable energy goals.
