The transition of textile and leather supply chains towards circular economy models requires profound technological, organizational, and data-driven transformations. This article analyses the main technological challenges that currently limit the effective circularization of these sectors, which are strategic for Made in Italy but characterized by high environmental impacts, complex multi-actor structures, and strong dependence on chemical, energy, and water-intensive processes. The paper discusses key enabling technologies for circularity, focusing on advanced process monitoring, digitalization of production systems, traceability tools, Life Cycle Assessment, and the integration of data infrastructures capable of supporting ecodesign, resource efficiency, and end-of-life strategies. Particular attention is given to the role of digital technologies in enabling transparency, predictive modelling, and decision-support systems, as well as to the need for interoperable and validated datasets to support industrial symbiosis, waste valorisation, and regulatory compliance. The analysis highlights how circularity in textile and leather supply chains cannot be achieved through isolated technological solutions, but requires systemic approaches combining technological innovation, organizational redesign, and governance mechanisms. The article concludes by outlining priority research and innovation directions to support resilient, sustainable, and circular supply-chain configurations.

Abstract
The article concludes by outlining priority research and innovation directions to support resilient, sustainable, and circular supply-chain configurations.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
