The present work deals with the revision of the rich hoard of Norman gold tarì found in 1925 at the fund Fargione, in the territory of Modica (Ragusa), and published with a general catalogue in 1952 by Panvini Rosati. On the basis of the most recent studies, the 141 coins recovered by Paolo Orsi are no longer uniformly assignable to Roger I, but 14 are today attributable to the Duke of Puglia Ruggero Borsa (about 1087-1093), the eldest son of Robert Guiscard. The most interesting data, however, emerged from the reading of the cufic legends written on some well-preserved specimens. Especially, have been isolated, at least five tarì that were trucked by the mint of Kirkint (Agrigento), of which only very few pieces are known. An unpublished specimen would anticipate the beginning of its activity under Roger I. Finally, the possibility of being able to evaluate a good sample of late with Tau-cross, has allowed to attempt a seriation and a greater definition of the series produced as result of the important monetary reform of 1085, which the hoard is a crucial witness.
