The purpose of this contribution is to present the early stages of the construction of a Somali-Italian termino-ontological resource dating back to the time of Italy’s colonialist expansion into Africa. Specifically, terminological data were taken from the notebooks written by the Italian explorer Ugo Ferrandi (1852-1928) and published by the Società Geografica in 1903 under the title “Lugh. Emporio Commerciale sul Giuba”. To build the Ferrandi’s onto-terminological resource the Semantic Web technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL) and the Linked Open Data paradigm were adopted to ensure the FAIRness of data and to allow our terminological resource to be published and shared in an open interconnected Web of Data, thus contributing to filling the absence of Somali in the Linguistic Linked Data cloud.

Abstract
The purpose of this contribution is to present the early stages of the construction of a Somali-Italian termino-ontological resource dating back to the time of Italy’s colonialist expansion into Africa. Specifically, terminological data were taken from the notebooks written by the Italian explorer Ugo Ferrandi (1852-1928) and published by the Società Geografica in 1903 under the title “Lugh. Emporio Commerciale sul Giuba”. To build the Ferrandi’s onto-terminological resource the Semantic Web technologies (RDF, OWL, SPARQL) and the Linked Open Data paradigm were adopted to ensure the FAIRness of data and to allow our terminological resource to be published and shared in an open interconnected Web of Data, thus contributing to filling the absence of Somali in the Linguistic Linked Data cloud.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
