The paper examines the social structure of 4th-century Milan through archaeological evidence, aiming to complement and critically reassess the picture provided by written and monumental sources. By analyzing urban spaces—including residential areas, infrastructures, production sites, and necropoleis—it reconstructs the distribution and roles of different social groups, from the imperial court to local elites and military components. The study highlights how the presence of the imperial residence shaped the organization of the city, while material data reveal patterns of social differentiation and everyday life in late antique Mediolanum.
