The poster highlights the key competencies that emerge when a Research Manager & Administrator (RMA) works across different institutions and contexts, transforming experience into transferable knowledge. RMAs operate in diverse ecosystems—such as universities, public research organizations, European infrastructures, and knowledge transfer offices—that differ in processes, languages, and organizational cultures. In this context, the RMA acts as a “living laboratory,” able to adapt and generate value. Experience across settings shows that the RMA role goes beyond technical-administrative tasks: it is a hybrid function integrating scientific, organizational, and strategic dimensions, continuously reshaped by the ecosystem. The contribution focuses on three core aspects: adaptability as a strategic competence; flexibility in addressing diverse needs; and the ability to connect actors and decision-making levels. Flexibility, though often underrecognized, is crucial for managing complex projects. Comparing ecosystems highlights differing views on compliance, reinforcing the RMA’s role in supporting researchers. The approach promotes tools and practices for an end-to-end project perspective, aligning scientific goals, funders’ requirements, and valorization opportunities.
