Introduction: This study evaluated body composition in 9 professional cyclists participating in a 3-week stage race. Data were collected at the beginning, halfway through and at the end of the race. Materials and Methods: Body weight, circumferences, skinfold thickness and bioelectrical impedance analysis variables were measured. Results: Body composition and total body water did not change significantly during the 3 weeks of the race. We observed a reduction of both body cell mass and phase angle, suggesting possible intracellular water reduction. Conclusions: Body cell mass and phase angle decreased significantly throughout the days of the competition, suggesting a possible influence on athletes' physical performance. © 2014 SINPE-GASAPE.
