Abstract

A radome consists of a particular structure used in order to protect antenna against the exterior environment effects without interfering with electromagnetic signal reception and transmission by the antenna. This paper describes the dynamics analysis carried out on a data transmission antenna for nautical use and on the radome which contains it. Mode shape analyses were carried out together with analyses of large displacements taking into account the wind effect and also response analyses to an external sinusoidal force generated by the boat. In actual facts the radome constructive requirements need a stiffness to the oscillations uncoupled with the boat natural characteristic frequencies so as not to interfere with the interior apparatus and instrumentations. Modal analyses were carried out for different configurations to select the best one for the aim of the application. The Ansys code was used for the computation and the dynamic responses of the antenna & radome structure were obtained in terms of vibrations and displacements taking into consideration the load conditions described. The antenna was thoroughly considered by also modeling its connected components beyond its radome.
