Luminescent Solar Concentrators are a class of optical devices able to harvest, downshift, and concentrate sunlight on a small surface area. They have emerged as a unique light management technology, as they can harness both direct and indirect or diffuse light. They have been adapted for various applications: indoor lighting, photochemistry, and optical communication. Organic dyes have been found very attractive due to their excellent compatibility with different polymer matrices and their easily and predictably tunable spectroelectrochemical properties. Such properties are usually attained by introducing alternating electrondonating (D) and accepting (A) units in their structure, taking advantage of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) character of the resulting photoexcitation process.
