The activities for the management of the emergency following the seismic events of 6 April 2009 in Abruzzo, coming from the cooperation among Department of National Civil Protection (DNCP), Abruzzo Region, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), Fire Brigade (VV.F.), Italian National Research Council - Construction Technologies Institute (CNR-ITC) and other public corporate body, have allowed a rationalization and synthesis of data and an elaboration of a system GIS (Geographic Information System), also used as support to the planning of the activities. Such project, developed by the CNR-ITC in collaboration with the DNCP for the management of the private buildings, with the MiBAC for the historical buildings and with the VV.F. for the interventions of mass in safety, has been used to support the planning of a lot of activities. Through the illustration of some results obtained, the paper describes the main features of GIS, explaining the peculiarities of the system.
