Coordination and organometallic chemistry have undergone a remarkable transformation over the past four decades. Once regarded primarily as disciplines devoted to the synthesis and study of transition-metal complexes, they have progressively become central to many of the most dynamic areas of contemporary chemistry, including homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, nanostructured materials, electrocatalysis and sustainable energy technologies. This evolution has been driven by a common scientific principle: a deeper molecular understanding of the structure and reactivity of metal complexes provides the foundation for the design of increasingly efficient catalytic systems and functional materials. Few scientific careers exemplify this evolution more coherently than that of Dr. Francesco Vizza. Throughout more than forty years of research, his work has consistently combined fundamental investigations in coordination and organometallic chemistry with the development of innovative catalytic processes and advanced materials for energy and sustainability. This Special Issue of Inorganica Chimica Acta celebrates not only his scientific achievements, but also a research philosophy in which fundamental chemistry and technological innovation have evolved hand in hand.
