Abstract

A biomonitoring program was developed to assess the impact on the marine ecosystem induced by the activity of two off-shore gas platforms. Mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) were collected from both the submerged parts of the platforms and at a control site. Biomarkers of physiological stress, DNA damage, oxidative stress and exposure to chemicals were applied to evaluate the effects of organic and inorganic chemicals.
