This paper investigates the performance of a multi user system where nodes, which are supposed to be uniformly and randomly distributed in a given area, transmit information to a base station which is equipped with smart antennas. In the paper herein we evaluate the achievable rate at the base station by considering the effect of propagation and nodes' location. We derive a lower bound as well as an approximate expression for the mean achievable rate. The lower bound requires the calculation of one single integral whereas the approximation is expressed in closed form and is valid for an arbitrary number of nodes and receiving antennas at the base station.

Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of a multi user system where nodes, which are supposed to be uniformly and randomly distributed in a given area, transmit information to a base station which is equipped with smart antennas. In the paper herein we evaluate the achievable rate at the base station by considering the effect of propagation and nodes' location. We derive a lower bound as well as an approximate expression for the mean achievable rate. The lower bound requires the calculation of one single integral whereas the approximation is expressed in closed form and is valid for an arbitrary number of nodes and receiving antennas at the base station.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
