Following the strong earthquake occurred in the Abruzzo region (central Italy) on April 6, 2009 (Mw=6.3, lo=9 MCS), magnetotelluric (MT) and Deep Electrical Resistivity Tomography (DERT) have been carried out across the Aterno Valley, in the L'Aquila basin. The purpose of these different types of deep geophysical explorations has been to cast light on both the geometric relationships between the Quaternary deposits and the deeper mesocainozoic bedrock of the L'Aquila basin, and the electrical structure at seismogenic depth.

Abstract

Following the strong earthquake occurred in the Abruzzo region (central Italy) on April 6, 2009 (Mw=6.3, lo=9 MCS), magnetotelluric (MT) and Deep Electrical Resistivity Tomography (DERT) have been carried out across the Aterno Valley, in the L'Aquila basin. The purpose of these different types of deep geophysical explorations has been to cast light on both the geometric relationships between the Quaternary deposits and the deeper mesocainozoic bedrock of the L'Aquila basin, and the electrical structure at seismogenic depth.
