The article presents a short description of the basic principles, contents, goals and final results of the "Low cost Software & Cultural Heritage" training course, recently held at ITC-Bari. The innovative approach of the learning experience is explained and the main features of open source software - seen from a critical perspective - are shortly discussed, based on an analysis, carried out at ITC and reported in the previous issue, on the different determining factors in the diffusion of the 'open-source' concept.
