Energy evaluations require first of all laboratory tests to calculate the thermal resistance of the soil, drainage and water storage as a function of thickness and soil moisture; these data are currently unavailable for the design phase of the green roof. After that, analytical models can help, on the one hand to extend the laboratory outputs to building envelope components that can not be tested in laboratory and, on the other hand, through dynamic software, to develop building cases studies to evaluate their energy performance.

Abstract

ITC-CNR, in cooperation with construction sector professionals, started a research focused on green roofs to highlight their energy performance in a building.
